On July 15, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago upheld a first-instance court's decision to deny Venckiene's motion to stay her extradition, according to the appellate court's publicly-available ruling.

Venckiene's son, Karolis Venckus, confirmed to the Delfi.lt online news site that her appeal had been rejected.

Lithuanian prosecutors want Venckiene to be extradited to stand charges of refusing to obey a court order to return her niece to her mother, molesting the child, illicitly collecting information, abusing her rights as the girl's guardian and other crimes.

Venckiene left Lithuania in 2013. She was arrested in Chicago on February 2018.
