Šimonytė nominates deputy education minister to head the ministry

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has nominated Gintautas Jakštas, deputy education minister, as the next minister of education, science and sport.

The nomination came after the prime minister’s meeting with President Gitanas Nausėda on Friday.
President Nausėda will meet with the candidate next week, the presidency’s spokesman said.

Jakštas has been overseeing studies, science and technology at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport since December 2020. Most recently, the 33-year-old deputy minister has been in charge of the restructuring of universities of applied sciences.
