Head of Border Guard Service: irregular migration likely to spike in summer

Irregular migration from Belarus to Lithuania is likely to spike in summer, General Rustamas Liubajevas, commander of the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), said Friday presenting the agency’s activity report for 2022.

Belarus caused a migrant crisis in 2021, creating conditions for migrants to arrive from the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa and elsewhere so they would then illegally cross to Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. More than 4,000 migrants entered Lithuania illegally in 2021.
