They show that 4,981 people died in the country in January, compared to 3,530 in January, 2020. The number of births also went down from 1,923 to 1,678.

The number of immigrants and emigrants was also lower last month as 2,805 people, including 1,613 citizens, came to the country, and 2,522 people, including 1,321 citizens, left the country.

The difference between outgoing and incoming people stood at 283. The figure was significantly higher in earlier months, standing at around 1,000. In January, 2020 there were 3,813 immigrants and 2,848 emigrants.

Lithuania's total population shrank by more than 3,000 people over a month as it stood at 2,795,175 in early January and 2,792,155 in early February.
