The board tasked the Seimas chancellor to write Nekrosius a response, telling him there's the legal basis for such checks.

"Apparently, the parliament member has decided to politicize a bit. There is no legal basis for such initiatives," said Jurgis Razma, the first deputy speaker of the Seimas, during the board meeting.

"We don't even know yet whether the winning caterer will get the license, and we are already fighting with the consequences we might not even have."

On Wednesday, the parliament's board decided to allow the sale of alcohol with a maximum alcohol content of 15 percent in Seimas buildings.

Presenting such a proposal, Seimas Chancellor Modestas Gelbuda said the permission would be important for the search of a new caterer as no companies had come forward to provide catering services to the parliament in August.

The sale of alcoholic beverages was banned within in Seimas buildings in 2008 on the initiative of the then Speaker of the Parliament Arunas Valinskas.
