Presidency expects government's proactivity in raising defence spending to 3%

Chief Adviser to the President on Economy and Social Policy Irena Segalovičienė says both parliament and Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas must be proactive in order to implement the president’s proposal for Lithuania to borrow funds so that defence spending would reach 3% of GDP next year.

The adviser said in an interview to the radio station Žinių radijas that the president has highlighted the need to take into account the geopolitical situation and for the national defence system to have sufficient resources. President Nausėda believes that the state budget must be flexible and an opportunity must be created to borrow additional funds and raise defence spending from the planned 2.52% of GDP to 3% in 2023.
