Nausėda reiterates that restrictions on Russians and Belarusians must be identical

In an interview to LNK TV on Monday, President Gitanas Nausėda reiterated his standpoint that restrictions on Russian and Belarusian citizens must be identical. He reminded about a recent mutiny by private military company Wagner in Russia and about media reports that the group was relocating to Belarus, which might pose a threat to Lithuania.

Although the president earlier proposed that restrictions on Russians and Belarusians should be identical, yet his proposal was rejected by the ruling coalition.

Nausėda said in the interview that the Lithuanian government would have to return to the issue once again, especially as Wagner mercenaries “armed with Belarusian passports” may emerge at the country’s border.

“I am not fearmongering, I simply suggest to consider the situation we are currently in. Those guys likely have no regard for anything and in the wrong hands could be used for all sorts of bad intentions,” said Nausėda.
