Nausėda: permanent presence of allies on territory of Lithuania is crucial for us

On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius. The meeting focused on the security situation in the region, support for Ukraine, preparations for the NATO Summit in Vilnius, as well as defence cooperation between Lithuania and Germany, with a particular focus on the deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania, reports the presidency.

During the meeting, Gitanas Nausėda emphasised that Lithuania appreciated Germany’s contribution to the security of the region and its long-standing commitment to enhancing it.
“Defence cooperation between Lithuania and Germany is an important component of the security of Lithuania and the entire eastern flank of NATO,” the president pointed out. According to the Gitanas Nausėda, Lithuania seeks to accelerate the strengthening of NATO’s forward and air defence, given the security situation in the region.
