Nausėda: I would strongly support PM as potential NATO head

President Gitanas Nausėda says he would support the prime minister’s nomination for the NATO head in his response to foreign media reports that Ingrida Šimonytė is mentioned in unofficial talks by diplomats as a candidate to succeed the incumbent NATO secretary general.

“I would strongly support her nomination as I would also support nominations of the people who know the region very well, come from the region and, as you know, we have more than one candidate like that. First of all, one has to understand the specifics of the region really good as today it is one of the regions most vulnerable to Russia’s threat,” the head of state said in a LRT broadcast on Wednesday.
