"To this date, some 1,500 irregular migrants, who have come from Belarus, have registered for asylum procedures executed by the Migration Department. Out of these, around 200 decisions are final, made. None of them so far has been in their favor, meaning, there've been no decisions to grant asylum," she told journalists on Friday.

"That means that all those people we are working with right now are being informed about alternatives and possibilities to voluntarily return home," the department director said.

Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite says around 14 migrants have agreed to voluntarily return home, and another 11 are going through other procedures. The first Iraqi migrant who cross the Lithuanian-Belarusian border in June, flew back home on Thursday.

"The processes started, that's the start, and we are trying to have irregular migrants returned to their countries of origin," the minister said.

Over 4,100 migrants have crossed into Lithuania from Belarus illegally so far this year, but the flow has decreased considerably after border guards were allowed to push them back to the neighboring country.

Lithuania has a state-level extreme situation declared over the unprecedented migration influx which it says is being orchestrated by the Belarusian regime.
