Lithuania's Maritime Rescue Coordination Center received a report of an accident from a ship sailing from the port of Klaipeda towards Estonia at 11.05 a.m. on Tuesday.

The accident happened in the engine room of a Finnish tanker Uikku and the crew member suffered chemical burns to their eye and had to be taken to hospital urgently.

An AS-365 helicopter was sent from the Air Force Search and Rescue Station in Nemirseta. The helicopter picked up the injured crew member from the ship, flew the person to Klaipeda where he was handed over to medics.
