"The high-level meeting will bring together the leaders of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Denmark, Finland, and the President of the European Commission to discuss green energy transformation in the Baltic Sea Region with special focus placed on the transition to renewables and the promotion of secure, sustainable and responsible energy in Europe," his office has said in a press release.

The Lithuanian government's program calls for 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of installed wind power capacity and 1 GW of solar capacity by 2025.

The aim is to increase the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the total final energy consumption to 50 percent by 2030. The share of RES should reach 15 percent in all types of transport, 70 percent in electricity consumption and 90 percent in the heating energy mix.

Lithuania's transition to a green economy is estimated to cost it around 14 billion euros over the next decade, of which almost 10 billion euros are expected to come from the state and the rest from privately-owned businesses.
