Lithuania records 264 new Delta coronavirus cases

Lithuania has recorded 264 new cases of the worrisome Delta coronavirus variant, first detected in India, this week, the country's National Public Health Surveillance Laboratory said this week.

Also, 33 new cases of the Alpha strain, first detected in the UK, and one case of the B.1.620 variant, found in Lithuania's Anyksciai, were recorded.

The majority of Delta samples came from Vilnius County (82) and Siauliai County (70) last and this week. 66 cases were recorded in Klaipeda County and Kaunas County reported 64 cases.

Up until now, over 10,000 cases of the Alpha variant, more than 400 cases of the Delta variant, over 200 cases of the B.1.620 variant, and more than ten cases of the Beta (South African) variant have been found in Lithuania as part of the genome sequencing testing project coordinated the NPHSL.
