Language inspectorate chief says Polish signs in Vilnius district mark historical occupation

Polish road signs in the villages of Bieliškės and Ažulaukė in Vilnius district must be removed, says the chief of the State Language Inspectorate, as they violate the law and mark the historical Polish occupation territory.

“There can only be Lithuanian place names in Lithuania. This is regulated by the Law on the State Language and, in general, this is a common European practice,” Audrius Valotka told the LRT public radio on Thursday.
