Government dismisses Staškevičius amid corruption allegations

The Government has dismissed the Head of the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) Mantas Staškevičius, a suspect in a pre-trial bribery investigation, from the office. Deputy Director of VMVT Audronė Mikalauskienė will serve as acting director, the Cabinet decided on Monday morning.

Last week the VMVT announced that Sigitas Siriukaitis, head of the VMVT Veterinary Medicines and Feed Department in Kaunas, and Arūnas Teišerskis, director of VMVT Šiauliai Department, were removed from the office. VMVT Director Staškevičius was suspended from his duties under the prime minister’s order.
