Čmilyte-Nielsen: sexual abuse accusations against MP may affect parliament

Parliament Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen says accusations of sexual abuse against Conservative MP Kristijonas Bartoševičius are shocking and may harm both the Seimas and the country’s political system.

“We realise that such accusations are shocking regardless of the profession of the accused. The fact that they are made against a member of the Seimas, a very public person, is probably even more shocking. This, of course, will have an impact on the Seimas and, likely, on the political system,” said the speaker.
