"There's a proposal to lift the restriction on groups of no more than 5 people in public places as of early June. Among other things, it means that people will be able to place street basketball, football and other "contact" games," the prime minister posted on Facebook on Monday.

"Sports events would be subject to the same conditions as other events. Outdoors, they will be allowed to take place if no more than 300 spectators and participants gather and distances of at least one meter among spectators are ensured. In closed spaces, no more than 100 spectators and participants would be allowed, with 2 meters among spectators," he said.

If the epidemiological situation around the spread of the coronavirus is not getting worse, the number of spectators will be increased to up to 500 people for outdoor spaces and up to 150 in indoor spaces, the prime minister said.

Such decisions were on Monday made by the COVID-19 committee chaired by the prime minister, and the government is yet to consider them.

Lithuanian was put under lockdown on March 16 to stop the spread of the coronavirus and all sports events were cancelled.
