PM is critical of idea to introduce relief for mortgage loans

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė disagrees with the opposition’s proposal to reintroduce relief for mortgage loan borrowers because this measure would promote indebtedness of residents and she does not think the Government should subsidise individuals taking mortgage loans.

“The market is now regulated differently. I am not sure why the state should use taxpayer money to subsidise those taking mortgage loans. Perhaps then people buying housing for their own money would also request some sort of a subsidy from the state,” Šimonytė told Info TV on Tuesday.
