"We are launching our first e-store in Latvia where Rimi has the largest market share. We see the potential in all three Baltic states," Edgar Sesemann, CEO at Rimi Baltic, said in a statement.

In his words, in other countries, for example, the United Kingdom, e-trade accounts for around 10 percent of the retail trade in food products. It only stands at 1 percent in Estonia and less than one percent of the total market in Latvia and Lithuania.

The trial of the e-platform is underway, and Rimi customers will be able to start shopping online in October.

"We will also trial new solution, as they were trialed in Latvia, starting with Vilnius and gradually expanding e-trade across the country," Giedrius Bandzevicius, country managing director at Rimi Lietuva, said in a statement.

Rimi Baltic, owned by Sweden's ICA Gruppen, owns 100 percent of Rimi Lietuva.

Now, Barbora, part of Maxima Grupe, and Assorti operate e-stores in Lithuania, selling food products.
