Gender pay gap narrows to 12.1 pct in 2020

The biggest pay difference for men and women last year was in the areas of finance and insurance and stood at 33.8 percent, followed by the information and communication sector (28.8 percent) and the healthcare and social work sector (27.1 percent).

In transport and warehousing as well as construction sectors, the gender pay gaps were negative, at minus 3.5 percent and minus 1.8 percent, respectively, as women’s average hourly gross wages exceeded those of men.

According to the statistical office, factors of social and economic character, and not legal factors, had an impact on the gender pay gap, including the number of men and women working in specific economic areas, their profession, education, age, the record of work and other reasons.

The gender pay gap across the EU stood at 14.1 percent in 2019, down 0.3 percentage point from 2018.
