The Government has extended the deadline for Ukrainian refugees working in Lithuania to learn the state language.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday presented First Lady Diana Nausėdienė with the 1st grade Order of Princess Olga, a state decoration of Ukraine, at the Ukrainian Center, the presidency reports.

The state has funded studies of more than 1,000 Ukrainians who arrived in Lithuania after fleeing the war in their country, says the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. The state support for Ukrainian students in Lithuania’s state higher education institutions totalled EUR 4.6 million.

Ukrainian war refugees have been applying to the Migration Department in large numbers to renew their temporary residence permits since last week, when the process started. The interest is exceeding all the expectations, the authority says.

Lithuanian instructors have trained 2,900 Ukrainian soldiers this year, the military said. Trainings are planned for another 3,500 Ukrainians next year.
