The implementation of Lithuania's key reforms in education, state-owned enterprises and labor relations is hampered by the government's lack of experience, President Dalia Grybauskaitė said on Wednesday.

If Lithuania's new Labour Code is passed by the Seimas with the Tripartite Council-approved amendments and takes effect in July, the package will have to be supplemented immediately as it fails to ensure adequate protection of workers' rights, President Dalia Grybauskaitė said.

Enforcement of Lithuania's new Labour Code liberalizing the labor relations will not be postponed again, says Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, adding that the document will take effect in July.

Representatives of the Lithuanian government, employers and trade unions signed an agreement on a number of issues during the last meeting of the Tripartite Council on Wednesday, the Social Security and Labour Ministry said.

The majority halted the new Labour Code in the hopes of an extra half a year allowing employer and employee representatives to reach compromise on the most disputed questions. It would appear that such expectations were overly optimistic.
