PM: schoolchildren need more second foreign language options

In an interview to the radio station Znad Wilii on Wednesday, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said pupils in Lithuania must have more options when choosing which second foreign language to study. According to her, while English is the first foreign language, more schools could teach Polish rather than Russian as the second foreign language.

“I am in favour of more Polish language [taught] at school. I think more could be done in this regard with some effort. We must have teachers who teach in smaller Polish schools, which perhaps should be merged, and some of them could start teaching the Polish language to Lithuanian children,” said Šimonytė.
