Social Democrat MP Budbergytė calls for probe into soaring food prices

With food prices in Lithuania rising at the fastest pace across the European Union, Social Democrat MP Rasa Budbergytė asks the finance minister to initiate a prompt investigation into causes of the inflation to find out whether it is the rise in the costs of doing business or other factors, including an attempt of businesses to take the advantage of the present situation.

In a press release, former finance minister Budbergytė argues that a similar study has already been carried out in Sweden. The National Institute for Economic Research has been investigating whether inflation in the country is due to objective economic reasons or is simply the result of the greed of business people, the MP noted.
