The annual international book fair, one of the key cultural events in Lithuania, was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event is moving to next year with its theme, Image as Text.

Lolita Varanaviciene, one of the organizers, says that the global pandemic has unexpectedly turned into a golden age for "the world of books".

"People who never cared about books have started to read. So the world of books has not stopped," the president of the Lithuanian Publishers Association said in a press release.

"But what is it that authors, publishers and readers miss most? [It is] face-to-face talk, face-to-face communication. In short, [it is] what the fair has given and nurtured over its 21 years," she added.
