The decision follows the European Medicines Agency's recommendation that Moderna's vaccine were authorized for children aged 12 to 17 years.

Currently, the two-shot vaccine is administered to people aged 18 years and over.

It is the second coronavirus vaccine approved for adolescents in Lithuania after the Pfizer-BioNTech one. The other two vaccines used in the country – AstraZeneca and Janssen – are only given to adults.
