On Wednesday, the City Council of Vilnius will discuss a proposal to provide, free of charge, around 20 work desks with Internet access in five rooms on the second floor of the municipal building in Konstitucijos Avenue to natural persons working for Belarusian startups and other businesses moving to Lithuania, and those representing Belarus' media or NGOs.
To be eligible, Belarusians will be required to have a multiple-entry Lithuanian visa or residence permit, and recommendations from Lithuanian institutions or bodies, the municipality said in a press release on Tuesday.
Free office space will be provided for three months, with an option to extend the period up to six months.
Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Simasius said in the press release that the capital "is helping its neighbors while their country is under the terrorist regime".
Belarusians' migration to Lithuania, mostly to Vilnius, has intensified in the wake of the Minsk regime's crackdown on the opposition and protesters refusing to recognize the re-election of Belarus' authoritarian leader, Alexander Lukashenko, as president last August.
Minsk has recently further tightened the restrictions on citizens leaving the country, citing the coronavirus situation as the reason.
