Sources: businessman Stonys detained as part of probe into VAT fraud scheme

Lithuanian businessman Rimandas Stonys, active in the energy area, has been detained as part of an investigation into a fuel VAT fraud scheme, informed sources confirmed it to BNS on Tuesday.

The country's Financial Crime Investigation Service refrains from commenting on the situation yet.

According to the information available to BNS, Stonys is a suspect in the investigation and is detained. BNS has not managed to contact his lawyer yet.

LNK News reported on Tuesday that Stonys was being questioned outside Vilnius.

Stonys is the owner of Kauno Termofikacine Elektrine and previously owned Dujotekana, an importer of gas from Russian gas giant Gazprom.
