He said after the European Council's Thursday meeting that a vaccine delivery schedule for the first and second quarter had been approved.
"Under the schedule, the European Union should receive 100 million vaccine dozes from various producers in the first quarter, and get another 480 million dozes in the second quarter," the president said.
In his words, under the pro rata principle, Lithuania would receive 600,000 dozes in the first quarter and another 3 million dozes in the second quarter.
Such vaccine amounts would allow vaccinating at least 2 million Lithuanian residents.
According to Nauseda, that could be achieved if the three registered vaccine producers met their commitments and if the Jonson&Jonson vaccine was registered in March.
"I believe that both the EU plan and Lithuania's ambitious plan to vaccinate 70 percent of adults by the middle of the summer is realistic. Of course, it won’t happen automatically and we need make every effort, especially at the EU level, to negotiate with the producers so that they meet the deadlines and commitments," the president underlined.
As of Thursday, 143,920 people had received their first coronavirus vaccine shots and 70,853 had been given the second jab.
