Tomas Vytautas Raskevicius, a homosexual activist who organized the rally, urged the state leader to “keep promises”.

“We kept reminding the president of his election promise – to wear a rainbow badge – during the whole of June,” Raskevicius told BNS.

“The president has failed to keep his promise and therefore we are today staging a friendly and bright rally near the president’s office in order to make the last attempt to urge the president to remember that promise,” he added.

The president should decide himself “when it would be convenient for him” to wear the badge, Raskevicius said adding that it “would be a wonderful occasion” for Nauseda to do so during the Vilnius Pride 2020 on July 11.

In May 2019, Nauseda stated during the presidential election debates that he would wear a rainbow badge to demonstrate “solidarity against brutal lack of understanding that we live in a society where we must respect one another and, if I see even the slightest manifestations of such intolerance, I will definitely respond and express my human solidarity”.
