The National Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) approved on Thursday new rates for customers of the electricity and gas supply company Ignitis.
The standard electricity rate is set to increase by 1.9 euro cents, or 14.6 percent, to 14.9 cents per kilowatt-hour, including VAT. Households charged on a time-of-day basis will likely pay 16.8 cents for daytime electricity, up by 2.5 cents, or 17.5 percent, and 10.7 cents for nighttime electricity, up by 0.7 cents, or 7 percent.
The fixed price component remains unchanged at 3 or 6 euros monthly, depending on the plan.
Energy Minister Zygimantas Vaiciunas told BNS in October that the hike in electricity prices for consumers was due to rising wholesale market prices.
Electricity prices for household consumers went up by 15 percent on average in January 2019, too.
