The draft document calls for increasing the number of professional servicemen to almost 14,500 by 2028, from 10,900 currently.

The total number of members of the Lithuanian National Defense Volunteer Force or other active reserve servicemen is planned to rise by 900 to 6,300 people.

The number of prepared reserve servicemen participating in exercises and training should treble to 3,900 people.

The number of conscripts should grow by 100 to 3,900 people.

The number of cadets of the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania and servicemen participating in training for commanders of junior officers would remain unchanged at 320 and 610 people, respectively.

The expansion plans were drawn up in line with political parties' agreement to raise defense spending to 2.5 percent of GDP in 2030, from just over 2 percent currently.
