Lithuania's government is considering moving 12 ministries to a building complex next to the parliament, with a meeting of ministers already held on the matter, Lietuvos Rytas daily said on Wednesday.

To translate the plan into reality, the building should be built from scratch in a territory owned by the parliament and earlier planned for a new dormitory for MPs.

"We conducted an analysis of the benefits the state would have from moving the ministries. We have not yet worked out the legal procedures. Final touches are still needed. We need to speak with the parliament's leadership as the land site is currently owned by the Seimas that planned to build a dormitory there," Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis told the daily.

According to Lietuvos Rytas, the Foreign Ministry and the Defense Ministry would be the only ones to remain in their current locations.
