The president and the newly appointed ambassador to Estonia discussed common issues related to the transatlantic agenda of Lithuania and Estonia and the strengthening of security in the Baltic region. The meeting underlined the importance of regional cooperation between the Baltic and Nordic countries. The president stressed the need to coordinate joint actions and positions at the international level in the face of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Gitanas Nausėda also pointed out the need to ensure continued attention to energy security and critical infrastructure projects, in particular to accelerating the synchronisation of the Baltic electricity systems with continental Europe.

During the meeting with the newly appointed ambassador to Moldova, the president and the ambassador discussed the development of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Moldova, security issues in the region, cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries and Lithuania’s support for Moldova’s accession to the European Union. According to Gitanas Nausėda, Lithuania is interested in the success of Moldova’s reforms and is ready to fully share its expertise. The meeting also focused on economic cooperation between Lithuania and Moldova, the promotion of student exchanges, and fostering ties with the Lithuanian community.

Ambassador Murmokaitė previously headed the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations and worked at the Lithuanian Embassy in Italy. The diplomat has been awarded the Cross of Commander and the Cross of the Knight of the Order for Merits to Lithuania.
