“They massively deport people from occupied districts, they have already taken away hundreds of thousands of people who are being sent to filtration camps, they take their documents, interrogate them, humiliate or kill – it’s not clear,” he said in a virtual address to the Seimas of Lithuania from Kyiv on Tuesday.

“Many of the deportees are sent to Russia’s regions and are banned to leave. It is an attempt to get rid of all witnesses of war crimes,” Zelensky added.

According to him, those responsible are not just the troops committing crimes but also their commanders and political leaders.

“Is it possible that Russia’s political leadership does not understand what consequences this has? It’s impossible but this is happening and this is happening in our land,” the Ukrainian president said.

Earlier this month, he spoke about mass deportations in his address to the United Nations.

Zelensky urged to take “immediate” action on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of his country and called to expel Russia from the UN Security Council or, should it be impossible, to dissolve the organization altogether.

Russia is a permanent member of the council with the right to veto any of its decisions and it has used it repeatedly to block resolutions and negotiations in the global arena.
