"If we see no stabilization over the course of the first week after the lockdown comes into force, then we will be able to consider additional measures," he told a press conference on Friday.

Lithuania is going into a three-week national lockdown as of Saturday. Public catering and entertainment venues will have to close, excluding take-away deliveries. Sports matches will have to be held without fans, and other events and people's gatherings will be banned.

Shops will be able to continue operating but will need to restrict shoppers' flows. Groups of no more than five people will be allowed in public places, excluding family members, and mask-wearing will be mandatory.
