UK coronavirus variant found in 30 out of over 500 samples

Thirty out of over 500 samples sequenced in Lithuania this week came back positive for the new strain first detected in the United Kingdom, the National Public Health Surveillance Laboratory (NPHSL) said on Wednesday.

Twenty-two of the new cases of the British variant were found by Lithuanian laboratories and eight by the reference laboratory of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

A total of 80 cases of the UK variant have been detected in 1,051 samples in Lithuania as part of the genome sequencing testing project coordinated the NPHSL.
