"The extended judicial panel (...) decided to dismiss the convicts' appeals," Judge Arturas Pazarskis.

The court also changed the sentence for Mel who was in command of a Soviet tank during the events of January, 1991, and cut his prison sentence from ten to nine years.

The Supreme Court's decision is final and binding.

A total of 13 appeals were filed in this case. All of them received prison sentences. The prosecution service had asked the court to reject the appeals filed by Oleg Morkovsky, Dmitry Filippov, Viktor Romanchevsky, Yuri Mel, Vladimir Demidov, Konstantin Usov, Yuri Strashnenko, Albertas Galinaitis, Mikhail Golovatov, Grigory Belous, Sergey Panikarov, Anatoly Fefelov and Gennady Ivanov.
