Asked in the survey carried out by Spinter Tyrimai to specify a presidential candidate they would support in elections if those were to be held next Sunday, 16.8 percent of respondents said they would give their votes to Nauseda.

Ignas Vegele, ex-chairman of the Lithuanian Bar Association, came in second with 8.9 percent of votes while Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte ranked third with 7.9 percent.

Further down the line were Vilija Blinkeviciute, leader of the opposition Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, with 6.2 percent, Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas with 5.6 percent, Saulius Skvernelis, former prime minister and leader of the Democratic Union "For Lithuania" with 4.7 percent, and journalist and public figure Andrius Tapinas with 3.8 percent.

Ramunas Karbauskis, leader of the opposition Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, would receive 2.6 percent of votes, and Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas and leader of the Liberal Movement, would get 2 percent.

Aurelijus Veryga, Remigijus Simasius, Ausra Maldeikiene, Valdemaras Tomasevskis, Petras Grazulis, and Gabrielius Landsbergis, who were also included in the list of potential presidential hopefuls, received less than 2 percent of votes each.

Some 11.8 percent of the polled said they would vote for a different candidate, i.e. a candidate not included in the list, 17.8 percent were undecided, and 11.9 percent said they would not vote.

The Spinter/Delfi survey of 1,010 people aged 18-75 was carried out on September 20-30. The margin of error is 3.1 percent.
