"Currently, wind speeds are over 20 meters per second and the height of waves is four to five meters," Vladas Motiejunas, the harbor master, told BNS. "The pilot boat can't work outside the port area."

Motiejunas said no vessels waiting for permission to enter the port, but the captain of one ship had decided to delay its departure.

"In the current conditions, [ships] are allowed to leave, but it is the captain who decides," he said.

The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service forecasts that wind gusts will reach 21-23 m/s in western districts and up to 32 m/s at the seaside on Thursday and will remain similar on Friday.
