The rest of them are expected to arrive with military equipment in the seaport of Klaipeda on Wednesday, the Armed Forces have told BNS.

A total of 250 German military personnel and over 80 pieces of military equipment are expected to come to Lithuania for an exercise running at the Gaiziunai training area in Rukla, in central Lithuania, until mid-October.

The forward command element of the brigade arrived in Lithuania in early September.

German and Lithuanian leaders agreed in June on the assignment of a German brigade to Lithuania.

At the Madrid summit later in June, NATO's leaders confirmed plans to boost, if necessary, the Alliance's forces deployed to the eastern flank, including Lithuania, several years ago.

Germany also leads NATO's multinational battalion stationed in Lithuania since 2017.

The Alliance decided to beef up its presence in the Baltic countries after Russia launched its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in late February.
