Of the refugees registered in Lithuania since last Friday, 475 were minors, including 146 children under the age of six.

In total, nearly 19,000 people, or around a third of all refugees, have registered with the Vilnius registration center, 8,700 in Kaunas and 7,300 in Klaipeda.

Of the total number of war refugees registered so far, 5,500 are children under the age of six, and 15,200 are minors aged between six and 18 years. Almost 2,400 people are aged over 65 years.

Most of the arrivals are women and children and the majority of them have applied for a temporary residence permit on humanitarian grounds.

While the overall flow of refugees continues to decline, 18-26 year olds, the smallest group of arrivals in March, has become the largest one since the start of last week, according to experts at Statistics Lithuania.

The experts note, among things, an increase in the proportion of young men coming from Ukraine.

"The percentage of registering 18-26 year old women has dropped significantly in the past week," they have posted on Facebook. "This means that more young men have started to come to Lithuania due to the changing situation in Ukraine (border permeability, the course of war, families' financial situation, etc.)."

The percentage of young men in the age group has now surged to almost 40 percent, from around 15 percent in March, according to the experts.

Based on UN data, around 5.7 million people have left Ukraine since Russia invaded its neighbor in late February, and over 7.7 million persons are internally displaced.
