Skvernelis: chief of defence might be replaced

MP Saulius Skvernelis, the former prime minister and now leader of the party Democrats For Lithuania, claims that the future of Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupšys is unclear as indicated by disputes over the planned deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania.

Some politicians believe that Germany should clearly reaffirm its commitment to station a brigade-size unit in Lithuania, fearing that the two countries differently interpret the joint communique signed by President Gitanas Nausėda and Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in which Germany promised to send more troops after Russia invaded Ukraine.
