Seimas Speaker: president’s statements prove that our society has issues

Parliament Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen is critical of President Gitanas Nausėda’s recent sexist statements. Speaking about the issue of deployment of a German brigade to Lithuania to boost the security of NATO’s eastern flank, the president remarked that the German military is not “a girlfriend that can be invited to spend a pleasant evening by the lake” but needs “a prenup” where all the commitments would be clearly stipulated.

According to the parliament speaker, the comparison is inappropriate, incomprehensible and signals that there are many issues with gender stereotypes in Lithuania.
