Seimas speaker in Warsaw: European political centre of gravity moves to eastern EU

Seimas Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, currently in Warsaw, says that Europe’s political centre of gravity has now shifted to the eastern part of the European Union, which opens up an opportunity for a qualitative leap in the region’s development.

The Baltic States and Poland have already been at the forefront of aid to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia or Belarus, support for the Eastern Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), and initiatives to promote European resilience, even before the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine, the Seimas speaker noted.
