Russian diplomat summoned in protest against removal of monuments in Irkutsk

On Tuesday, the Russian Federation’s chargé d’affaires ad interim Alexander Elkin was summoned to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry in protest over the removal of monuments to Lithuanian and Polish deportees and political prisoners in the Irkutsk Oblast, southeast Siberia, the ministry announces.

The Foreign Ministry condemned Russia’s actions to remove a monument and a cross built in memory of Lithuanian and Polish exiles and political prisoners from their location.
