President Gitanas Nauseda remains the most popular politician in Lithuania as his popularity rating has not changed over a month, according to the latest survey by Vilmorus for the Lietuvos Rytas daily, published on Saturday.

54.5 percent of the people surveyed had a positive opinion about the president in November, compared to 53.9 percent in October. And 25.2 percent had a negative opinion about the head of state.

Vilija Blinkeviciute, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, came in second with a popularity rating of 44.1 percent (47.2 percent). 23.2 percent had a negative opinion about her last month.

"She received a record-high rating after her emergence on the political stage, so that decrease is natural," Vladas Gaidys, head of Vilmorus, told BNS.

Visvaldas Matijosaitis, mayor of Lithuania's second-largest city of Kaunas, came in third with 42.4 percent (45.8 percent) and a negative rating of 21.4 percent, followed by Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen with 36.8 percent (38.4 percent) and 35.3 percent respectively.

Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte has a popularity rating of 33 percent, unchanged form a month ago, and 49.6 percent (51.4 percent in October) had a negative opinion about her.

Economy Minister Ausrine Armonaite, leader of the Freedom Party, had the highest negative rating of 63.5 percent (59.8 percent), followed by Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, leader of the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, with 59.8 percent (57.2 percent) and MEP Valdemar Tomasevski, leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance, with 58.7 percent (56.3 percent).

The phone survey of 1,000 people was carried out on November 18-27.
