During his Thursday remote meeting with representatives of organizations uniting and assisting seniors, the president expressed his concern over the fact that just more than 40 percent of people aged 80 and above have been vaccinated in Lithuania, Raminta Stanaityte-Cesnuliene, spokeswoman for the president, told a press conference.

"That’s almost half of the rate in the majority of EU member states. Looking into the COVID-19 death rates in this group, the president underlines that vaccination is especially important for this group and it is very important to invite people in this group to get vaccinated," she said.

In her words, the president hears during the meeting "a lot of useful idea on ways to step up vaccination and named accessibility and communication as the key things".

The president called on all people to help to resolve this problem, the spokeswoman said.

"The president is urging people to talk to their neighbors, encourage them, answer seniors' questions, and help them get to the vaccination place if needed," she said.
