Representing the conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, Simonyte was appointed prime minister after the country's parliament backed her appointed on Tuesday with 62 votes in favor, ten votes against and 41 abstentions.

Upon the parliament's approval and appointment by the president, the prime minister has 15 days to present the new government pre-approved by the president and also its program for parliamentary consideration.

The government received its mandate after the Seimas approves its program. The prime minister and ministers assume their positions after a searing-in ceremony in the parliament.

On Wednesday, Nauseda starts meeting with the candidates for ministers, proposed by Simonyte.
