"The patient was moved to the Santara hospital after testing positive for the coronavirus. The person belonged to the 71-80 age group, had underlying health problems, suffered from an oncological disease, and died yesterday," Ginreta Megelinskiene of the NPHC Vilnius Department told BNS.

This brings to ten the total number of coronavirus-infected patients of the Vilnius hospital, according to the official.

"Ten deaths have been recorded, but two of them were not caused by COVID-19, although it was diagnosed before death," she said.

Vilnius Regional Prosecutor's Office launched on Wednesday a probe into suspected violations of public health safety regulations at Vilnius City Clinical Hospital.

The prosecutors said they had opened the pre-trial investigation into possible violations of regulations on the control of epidemics or contagious diseases and failure to perform official duties at the hospital following a complaint from the NPHC.
